"Seniors Leaving a Legacy," was the theme for the first annual Student Academic Symposium that showcased students' work from each area of study on campus.

XpressFest kicked off the symposium Thursdsay April 16 and led into Friday's full day of academic seminars. Presentations were scheduled throughout the day, allowing for students to attend multiple events.

Advanced Journalism students enrolled in Com 335, taught by Robin Bisha, associate professor of communication studies, covered the symposium via "live blogging" through ScribbleLive.com. The Web site allowed for Com 335 students to immediately update their status through social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook.

The live feed alerted students and faculty of what was going on in each seminar. Updates included accompanying photos and video.

According to President Ann Svennungsen, the collaboration of departments and minds that made Academic Day possible is what makes TLU a valuable part of the larger community.

"[I'ts] these events, this sharing of knowledge, that makes us a generative community of faith and a community of learning," Svennungsen said.
